Southampton continued their winning start to the new Season with a wonderful performance away at Torquay United. The Saints ran rampant the entire match creating and scoring 6 goals past the Coca-Cola League 2 newcomers.
Rickie Lambert once again started off the goals as he had a long-range effort hit the back of the net on just 9 mintues.
Lambert bags the first of a hatrick to open the flood gates at Plainmoor from 20 yards out.
Lambert was then awarded a penalty and took it comfortably. He eventually found himself through on goal and showed a real goal-scorer's finish to complete his hatrick and to round up a great individual performance.
The goal events wern't quite over yet though, as on-loan Goalkeeper from Southampton to Torquay Michael Poke had an absoloute howler from a Southampton corner as Dan Harding's cross came to young Poke, for him to mis-judge it completely and for the ball to end up in the Torquay net.
Southampton Striker Marek Saganowski made it look easy after just coming on from the bench for the last 10 minutes managed to shoot 2 goals past Poke!
Food for thought - Saga gives Jones a reason for him to start as he puts 2 past Poke in 7 minutes.
Final Score, 6-0 to the Saints at Plainmoor.
It has been announced in the last few minutes also that Southampton have been drawn against recently-Promoted Premier League side Burnley in the next Carling Cup round, away at Turf Moor.
