Southampton were expected to be overwhelmed by new Premiership side Burnley at Turf Moor. However the League 1 club overcame a tough fought battle and came away with a well deserved, hard-earned win!
Saints Manager Dean Jones named an unchanged side to face The Clarets from the weekend where they beat Brentford at home comfortably 5-2. Burnley though, were also trying to carry on winning ways after they battled to a 1-0 win at home to fierce rivals Blackburn in the Premier League.
Southampton got off to a great start though, with Morgan Schneiderlin's excellent long-range pass into Burnley's box was met by experienced-Striker David Connolly to give The Saints a suprise lead.

Burnley eventually responded from a good counter-attacking move from a Southampton corner up one end and a great individual effort from striker Martin Paterson to show their Premier League quality.
But this was not the last of the goals, as to Burnley's misery. Rickie Lambert making the most of Burnley Goalkeeper-Penny's dreadful accidental pass straight to Saints striker Marek Saganowski, for him to pass it to Lambert who was waiting in the wings, for him to shoot from 30 yards and get the winner for Southampton.
Match winner! - Lambert guns home to win it for Saints.
Southampton Manager Dean Jones was delighted with the win -"I am extremely proud of how we've adapted from the last match in the league and come here against a very good team with great players in and got a deserved win!" He added -"Rickie Lambert and David Connolly were terific for us tonight and credit to them for getting their shooting boots on and getting the goals for us."
