Southampton battled against a very strong Millwall side today on the opening day of the 2009/10 Season. Southampton were much in control for most of the game but came up against a stubborn Millwall team. Luckily for Saints though, Rickie Lambert was again there to open up proceedings to score an absoloute cracker of a free-kick to mark his debut with a bang.

25 minutes later though, it was Millwall on the break as Jason Price's first time cross into Southampton's 6-yard-box was met by the head of left winger David Martin to equalise on 40 minutes for the Lions.
However Southampton fired staight back with a great individual effort from debutant Nathan Tyson just 3 minutes later.
Tyson gets his first of the Season and scores on his Saints debut!
Southampton confirmed their win on 69 minutes when Nathan Tyson and Rickie Lambert combined to finish emphaticly.

Millwall did eventually manage to get one more back late on in injury time through young Ghanian Ali Fuseini but Saints held on for their first 3 points of the Season.

Southampton Manager Dean Jones was delighted with the win, but more importantly the performance to go with it -"I thought we worked really well today, and with great finishing from Lambo' and Nathan. We put some fantastic moves together aswell which was pleasing to see!"
He added "Now we must continue to work hard and make sure we get the win at Huddersfield, but first we have a tricky away tie at Torquy in the Carling Cup which we will be expected to fly through."
really likin your blog mate very well done,iv just finished a season with huddersfield finishing first on 100pts,millwall were 2nd and southampton played leeds in play offs and leeds came out on top...i got emad motaeb210k 37games33goals11assists and jozef kanta for 150k35games25goals13assists both top players...
